Why couples planning a Denmark wedding need an app

Most international couples plan their Denmark wedding from another country — Germany, the United States, the UK, Russia, the Netherlands, or further afield. That means juggling time zones with Danish town halls, tracking documents that need to be apostilled in your home country, finding photographers and venues you cannot visit in person, and coordinating with witnesses who fly in for the day. A spreadsheet falls apart. Email loses things in threads. Paper checklists go out of date the moment a single document arrives. The app keeps everything in one place, syncs in real time with the DWS team, and works offline — so you can plan on the train, in the air, or wherever you are.

Verified vendor directory

Every photographer, florist, hotel, and restaurant in the app is one we have personally worked with. No SEO-stuffed listings, no agency cross-promotions. Filter by city, language spoken, style, and price band — book directly through the app or via your DWS planner.

Document tracker

See exactly which documents you have submitted, which are pending review at Familieretshuset (the Danish Agency of Family Law), and which you still need to gather. Push notifications alert you when the Familieretshuset approves your application or asks for additional information. No more refreshing your inbox.

Direct chat with your wedding planner

Skip the email back-and-forth. The chat is staffed by your assigned DWS planner — typical reply time is under 4 hours on weekdays. Send photos of documents, ask about ceremony scripts, get a vendor recommendation in your specific budget — all from the app.

Map-based venue explorer

Browse Copenhagen City Hall, Aabenraa Town Hall, Tønder, and our network of beach, lighthouse, and castle locations on a map. Tap any pin for photos, capacity, pricing range, and earliest available dates.

Built for German, Russian and English speakers

The app interface is fully translated, all in-app vendor descriptions show in your language, and the chat lets you message in any language — your DWS planner replies in the same one. Designed for binational couples where one partner speaks German and the other Russian, both with English as a fallback.

The Denmark Wedding App — Plan Your Marriage in Denmark From Anywhere

The DWS wedding planning app turns the complex Danish marriage process into a guided, step-by-step experience. It generates your personalised document checklist based on both partners’ nationalities, tracks your application status in real-time, books your town hall ceremony, and provides AI-powered answers to wedding questions in three languages — all from one mobile-friendly interface that works on iOS, Android, and web.

Why do couples planning a Denmark wedding need a planning app?

A Denmark wedding involves coordinating documents from two different countries, two governments, three languages of certificates, and one fixed Familieretshuset application window. Couples doing it on paper miss critical details, lose track of expiry dates, and submit incomplete applications — Familieretshuset frequently requests more information for incomplete applications. A planning app centralises every document, deadline, and milestone in one place that both partners can access from anywhere.

  • Two-country coordination — both partners track shared documents in real-time
  • Expiry-date alerts — civil-status declarations must be under 6 months old
  • Real-time status tracking — see your Familieretshuset application progress
  • Document-quality validation — AI checks scans against Familieretshuset standards
  • Multilingual — English, German, Russian interface

What does the DWS wedding app actually do?

The DWS wedding app handles the four core jobs of preparing a Denmark wedding — generating your personalised documents checklist based on both partners’ nationalities, validating uploaded document scans with AI document-quality checks, submitting your Familieretshuset application via the secure portal, and booking your town hall ceremony slot at Copenhagen, Aabenraa, or Tønder. Post-ceremony, it also tracks your apostille processing and home-country registration.

  • Personalised checklist generated from nationality + marriage history
  • Document scan upload with AI-powered Familieretshuset compliance check
  • Familieretshuset application prepared and submitted from inside the app
  • Ceremony booking at Copenhagen, Aabenraa, or Tønder town hall
  • Apostille tracking post-ceremony
  • 24/7 AI chat assistant answers wedding questions in three languages

How does the app’s personalised checklist work?

When you create your profile, you select both partners’ nationalities, current residency status, and previous marriage history. The app then generates a checklist tailored to those answers — EU + EU couples get a streamlined 4-document checklist with no apostille required (under EU Regulation 2016/1191), while non-EU couples get the full 6-document checklist including apostille requirements specific to their home country. The checklist updates dynamically if you change residency or marital status mid-process.

  • EU + EU couples — 4 documents, no apostille (Regulation 2016/1191)
  • EU + non-EU couples — 5 documents, apostille on non-EU side only
  • Non-EU + non-EU couples — 6 documents, apostille on both sides
  • Previously married — adds divorce decree with finality stamp requirement
  • Hague vs non-Hague countries — automatically routes to apostille or embassy legalisation

Is the app free, and which devices does it support?

The DWS wedding app is your private couple’s dashboard — personalised checklist, document upload, AI chat with your advisor, and ceremony info — and it is included free with the EUR 800 Comfort Package. After you book, your personal login (first name + email) is emailed to you and you sign in on your phone. Before booking, you can still research for free via the website’s free checklist generator and AI wedding assistant with no signup. The app runs in any web browser today, with native iOS and Android apps on the way.

  • Free core features — checklist, document upload, AI chat, browsing
  • Comfort Package (EUR 800) unlocks full document validation + submission
  • iOS app — TestFlight beta (App Store launch Q3 2026)

Frequently Asked Questions About the DWS Wedding App

Do I need to create an account to use the wedding app?

Yes — the wedding app is your private dashboard, so it requires a login, and that login is included with the EUR 800 Comfort Package. After you book, your personal sign-in (first name + email) is emailed to you. Separately, the website’s document checklist generator and AI wedding assistant stay free with no signup, so you can research everything you need before booking.

Is my document data secure when I upload to the app?

Yes. All document uploads use TLS 1.3 encryption in transit and AES-256 encryption at rest. Documents are stored on Hetzner servers in Frankfurt, Germany under GDPR jurisdiction. Documents are only shared with Familieretshuset upon your explicit submission consent. We never sell or share document data with third parties. You can delete your documents at any time via the account settings, with full deletion within 7 days.

Can the AI chat assistant give real legal advice?

No — the AI assistant is a documentation and process guide, not a legal advisor. It can explain Familieretshuset requirements, list document types, describe timelines, and walk through procedural steps. For binding legal advice on edge cases (complex divorce histories, asylum status, statelessness), we refer couples to Danish family-law solicitors. The AI assistant clearly flags when a question exceeds its scope and recommends professional legal counsel.

How does the app handle couples speaking different languages?

Each partner can set their own interface language independently. The shared document dashboard renders in both languages simultaneously — partner A sees German labels, partner B sees Russian labels, on the same underlying data. AI chat answers questions in whichever language you ask, regardless of your interface setting. This makes the app uniquely usable for binational couples where partners do not share a common language outside English.
